Butterfly

View All

A Butterfly Valve is a form of a quarter-turn valve which uses a metal disk for the closing mechanism. The disk is positioned in the center of the pipe and is open when the surface of the disc is parallel to the flow, closed when the disc is perpendicular to the flow. All of the Butterfly Valves we stock are designed to be connected between two flanges.

Two different Butterfly Valves.
  • Lug type Butterfly Valves connect between two flanges and have threaded inserts so that each flange can be bolted to the valve.
  • Wafer type Butterfly Valves are sandwiched between two flanges, but the valve is not bolted to either flange.
  • Butterfly Valves are stocked in sizes from 2 to 12 inches.
  • All have a BUNA seat and Nickel plated disc..

Sizes are Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) - size chart

SWP = Steam Working Pressure

WOG = Water, Oil, Gas working pressure

Originally the numbers for "Class" (150, 300, 600, etc.) was the working pressure (psig) at the corresponding saturated steam temperature. Ratings today are different because of changes made in materials and design.

Butterfly valves with wafers are sandwiched between two flanges, but the valve is not bolted to either flange.

Swing Check Valve - the closing disc moves freely, minimizing pressure loss and easing flow.

Spring Loaded Inline Check Valve - closing disc held shut by a spring that 'lifts' when there is sufficient pressure on the upstream side of the valve.

Seat = material of the valve seat.

Full = port through valve is the same as the nominal pipe size.

Reduced = port through the valve is smaller than the nominal pipe size.

i

Material of the body of the valve.
