Plasma-Cut Picture Frames: A Behind-the-Scenes Look

This one-of-a-kind project combines plasma cutting, etching, and real pipe fittings to create a picture frame that's as functional as it is unforgettable.
At Steel Supply, L.P., we're always looking for ways to combine our in-house services, creativity, and a bit of fun—and our latest project for OTC 2025 is a perfect example. This year, we wanted to give our visitors something memorable to take home. So, we used our plasma cutting and etching capabilities to create custom steel picture frames—and they've become one of our favorite projects yet.

Designing the Frame
We wanted to create something functional, artistic, and uniquely ours. After brainstorming, we settled on a custom steel picture frame—featuring bold cutouts and pipe fittings welded into the design. It was the perfect way to highlight our materials and in-house services.
Plasma Cutting in Action
Using our CNC Plasma Cutter, we brought the frame to life. Plasma cutting is ideal for intricate, high-precision work like this. It allowed us to create smooth edges, clean lines, and internal cutouts.
Also, plasma cutting lets us produce these custom frames quickly, so every attendee gets a piece that looks like it was made for them.

Personal Touches with Plasma Etching
We personalized each frame with plasma-etched details, including the Steel Supply, L.P. logo, and attendee names. Etching is a great way to add markings without compromising the integrity of the material. It's ideal for adding logos, text, or design elements that must be sharp, clean, and permanent.

Assembling the Frame
Once all components are cut, etched, and prepped, we weld the pipe fittings in place and join everything together. Each frame is then fully assembled and securely packaged—built tough, a bit heavy, and ready to ship to your home for display.
Showcasing What We Do Best
This project was more than just a giveaway—it was a chance to demonstrate our capabilities in a hands-on, creative way. While attendees didn't take their frames home on the spot, they'll soon receive a custom piece that reflects the work we're proud to do.
We enjoyed designing and building these frames and can't wait to connect with everyone at the event. We're already looking ahead to what we'll create next.
